Q: Why are rigging inspections important?
From ANSI 1.47-2017 “Entertainment rigging systems are systems used to move, lift, or support scenery, luminaires, and other equipment in entertainment venues, such as theatres, video/film studios, amphitheatres, and arenas used for live performances or special events. Routine inspection of entertainment rigging systems is required in order to provide a safe working environment and to comply with ANSI rigging standards.” Additionally, “The purpose of an entertainment rigging inspection is to provide information about the condition of the systems and components at the time of the inspection.”
Q: How often are they needed?
ANSI E1.47-2017 requires annual inspections of all entertainment rigging systems.
Q: Is Entertainment Rigging Services insured?
Indeed we are. Any person you hire to inspect your rigging equipment should at a minimum have Professional Liability insurance.
Q: Who should conduct the inspection?
Section 5.1.1 of ANSI E1.47-2017 states, “The inspector should have a minimum of 5 years or 10,000 hours of experience including a combination of entertainment rigging systems design, engineering, inspection, installation, maintenance, service, repair, modification, and functional testing. Typically, experience in system operation only will not provide suitable experience to inspect entertainment rigging systems." Pricing for Entertainment Rigging Services to conduct an inspection of your theatre begins at $1000 for the typical mid-size theatre (up to roughly 35 line sets). Loyalty discount available for subsequent annual inspections that happen within 13 months of previous inspection performed by Entertainment Rigging Services.
Grants are available for rigging inspections through the USITT Safety Initiative.
Q: What documentation will I receive after the inspection?
Following your inspection, you will receive a detailed report and analysis of the safety status of your space and equipment.
Q: Do you inspect fire curtains?
Yes! Entertainment Rigging Services will inspect the operation of your fire curtain to make sure it complies with the National Fire Protection Associations NFPA 80 as well as ANSI E1.22-2016.
